Holsteiner stallion Capone I (Contender x Ladalco), was an international 1.60 m showjumper. Subject to constant ownership struggles between people who claimed to be his owners, this compact and well balanced stallion did not have a steady sporting career. He nevertheless impressed with excellent technique, athleticism and power, recording wins and placings at many GP’s, including CN at Spruce Meadows.
Capone’s pedigree represents the pinnacle of jumping bloodlines in the Holsteiner breed, which is itself the preeminent breed globally in the production of International-level showjumpers. Awarded prestigious “Elite Stallion” by the BWP and approved for breeding in Germany, he is by the international superstar jumper sire Contender (Calypso II x Ramiro Z). While Contender hardly needs introduction, it is worth remembering how he became so famous, namely his reputation for production of both outstanding sporthorses and breeding mares, but most notably his production of stunning stallion sons the world around. Contender’s approved sons in the Holsteiner registry alone number well into the double-digits, and he is used by nearly every warmblood breed in Europe as an important improvement sire. On dam side, Capone comes from dam line 318 D1, one of the most successful lines the in Holstein breeding. It is the line of World Champion Cavalor Cumano (by Cassini I/Jos Lansink/BEL) and the Derby winner Boy (Eddi Macken/IRL), who is full brother of the licensed stallion Ladalco (Ladykiller xx x Aldato), the dam sire of Capone. This exact same cross can be found in some legendary horses, such as Landgraaf I.
The sublime breeding resulted not only in excellent jumping ability, but also in sound mind. Capone I impresses with his good nature and mild manners, demonstrating a combination of willingness, intelligence and gentleness that is prized by many breeders and riders alike. His breeding career again marred by constant scandals around him, Capone I produced several successful foal crops, marking his foals with a strong “stamp” of their handsome father. Compact, athletic, elegant and balanced, his foals also stand out strongly with their super temperaments. Christian, Capilano HF and Castalano are just some of the Capone I offspring who demonstrate qualities that he passes on to his offspring.
